Brandon, Kathy (his mom), Griff and I decided to take a last minute trip to southern California for a little break since Brandon had a client he had to meet there anyway. We stayed in San Clemente and played up and down the southern coast from Laguna Beach to San Diego. It was beautiful, and cold with fog on a few days. Despite the weather, it's always fun to be at the beach. Brandon and his mom both have a lot of family history in the area so they gave me a tour of places I've heard so many stories about. This was Griff's first visit to the ocean. He started off hesitant, but before long he was comfortable running out into the water. If it had been warmer, he may have gone all the way in. One of our favorite parts was walking the beach trail almost every morning from our hotel to the San Clemente pier. I don't have pictures of it, but one morning a pod of dolphins was 50 yards of the shore going the same direction and speed we were going. We walked with them the whole way.
little sun spot on my face
Checking out the sand
Not even the sand and waves could keep him off his favorite thing...the stairs
pint size chair for Griff
the hotel room only had a shower stall so he bathed in the kitchenette sink and loved it
Gram would take him to the grocery store when he woke up early so Brandon and I could sleep in. So nice. Griff loved it too. And he entertained the morning employees
Griff fell in love with the swing
and loved nothing more than to have Gram (not mom or dad) give him an underdog
Family swing time at San Clemente Pier
Chasing seagulls
I had envisioned ice cream on the pier but reality proved too cold so I got hot chocolate instead
We met up with Brandon's cousin Tracine and her family. Griff and Hazel got had fun playing together
down time
Morning walks
Can't believe he kept that hat on most of the time
Watching the train. It came by every 20 min or so.
Brandon and I hadn't ridden together in a long time. We hadn't ridden the PCH for 3 years. It was nice to get out again. We rode from our hotel down to Oceanside (25 miles) and met Gram and Griff there
These pelicans were HUGE
Lunch at Ruby's on the pier. Griff got a car and stickers
Watching seals
I really wanted a corn dog. Found one on the boardwalk!
Pacific beach
Griff is not the snuggly, cuddly type so when he reached up for my hand while walking the Marriot Marina in San Diego, I had to get a pic
Kathy's parents used to live on a boat in the Marriot Marina. She would bring the kids to come visit them so they have great memories of this spot
Dana Point tide pool
kissing some sea creature goodbye
Stop everything to watch the train
Touching soft squishy things in the tide pool at Laguna beach
Not sure why he covered his face, maybe because the sun finally burst through the fog and it was so bright
